Access to food is essential for good health and well-being. Without reliable access, it’s hard to get the nutrition and energy your body needs each day. Making sure everyone has access to food helps our community stay strong and healthy. Here are some resources available in Henry County.

Milestones Community Café

Community Cafés from Milestones Area Agency on Aging offer daily meals in a social setting for anyone over the age of 60, or their spouse of any age. $5 contribution recommended. Please call 855-410-6222 for reservations in advance of the serving day.

  • Meals by Nutrimos – single serving freezer meals available for pick-up at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Delivery is also available in Mt. Pleasant for $5.

Food Assistance Programs

  • SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
    • Provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of income-eligible families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency.

  • Double Up Food Bucks
    • Double Up matches SNAP/EBT dollars spent on fruits and vegetables, up to $15 a day. That means families can get twice the fresh fruits and veggies. Anyone receiving SNAP benefits is automatically eligible for the program. Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee participates, simply ask about Double Up Food Bucks at customer service to sign up!   • WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children)
    • Services include, eWIC cards to buy nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, and health and social services referrals
    • Low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women are eligible as well as infants and children up to age 5 who are found to be at nutritional risk.
