Health Insurance Options

  • Hawki – Free or low-cost health insurance for children under the age of 19 in working families who have too much income to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private health insurance, and are not enrolled in other health insurance.

  • Health Insurance Marketplace – If you don’t have health insurance through a job, Medicare, Medicaid, Hawki, or another source that provides qualifying health coverage, you can find coverage through the Marketplace.

  • Iowa Medicaid – Health insurance for people with low income, children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with disabilities.

    • Presumptive Eligibility gives people temporary Medicaid coverage while the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reviews their full application. Staff at Henry County Public Health can sign you up for presumptive eligibility if you qualify. Call 319-385-0779 to make an appointment.
  • Medicare – Health insurance for people 65 or older or with a disability

    • Need more help? The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) offers free, confidential one-on-one assistance, counseling, and education to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to help them make informed decisions about their care and benefits. Call them at 319-385-6774 to make an appointment (located in Henry County Health Center)

Medical Transportation Options

  • Photo of the Southeast Iowa bus, or SEIBUSSEIBUS – Southeast Iowa BUS. SEIBUS provides on-demand services scheduled 24 hours in advance. The buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts. They operate in Henry County Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. The fare is $3.00 one-way in town, $5.00 one-way town to town, and $25 for a monthly pass within the county. They also operate a medical shuttle to Iowa City hospitals (University, Mercy, Veterans, Iowa River Landing, etc.) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week, excluding holidays for $30 round trip.

    • To schedule a ride, call the SEIBUS Scheduler at 1-866-753-5107 and select option 1 for Bus Availability. SEIBUS appointments must be made no later than 2:00 pm the day prior to departure; subject to availability.
  • RSVP – Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program. This program, operated out of The Fellowship Cup, provides free transportation for elderly and disabled individuals to medical appointments. As part of the AmeriCorps Senior program, drivers are volunteers aged 55 or older and these rides are not wheelchair accessible. Rides are available outside of Henry County based on driver availability.

  • Medicaid transportation. Iowa Medicaid members with full benefits may be able to get rides to routine medical appointments at no cost, or reimbursement for travel expenses.

Prescription Discount Programs – A pharmacy discount card is a free card or mobile app that provides discounted prices on prescription medications for individuals paying with cash, regardless of whether they have insurance. GoodRx is one program, visit their website or stop by Henry County Public Health to pick up a discount card.

Safe Medication Disposal

Getting rid of medicines the right way helps prevent people from being accidentally poisoned, using them the wrong way, or harming the environment. Old or unused medicines can be dangerous if someone takes them by mistake or if they get into the wrong place.

    • Wide variety of items including C-Pap, oxygen, incontinence supplies, hospital beds, ostomy supplies, catheter, lift chairs, nebulizers, scooters, walkers, braces, reach aids, TENS units, diabetic shoes, compression stockings, and crutches. Accepts most insurance as well as Medicare accredited. Also repairs and services many items.

AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator)

Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood. It can happen to anyone, at any time, and signs include sudden collapse and immediate loss of consciousness. If cardiac arrest does occur, rapid treatment with a medical device called an automated external defibrillator (AED) can be lifesaving. There are several AEDs in public places around Henry County.
